Below are the events for 2026-2027

Meetings are in The Grove Building at 7pm for Refreshments and a 7.30pm start.

2026

8 April
This evening, we welcome Geoff Hobson who will give a talk and practical demonstration on Orchids. Members are welcome to bring theirs along if they need advice.

13 May
Tonight we welcome Arthur Cole with a talk on “The Newt: A journey Spanning Three Centuries” – A history of Hadspen, the Hobhouse Family, The Newt from concept through to delivery, The Four Season’s Garden, The Roman Villa and future developments.

13/14 June
Hidden Gardens Weekend. Enjoy a walk around Mere to see the gardens. Refreshments available at the Grove Building and The Angel Tea rooms will be open for light meals and refreshments. More details to follow.

8 July
David Boag, a photographer and author, will join us with a talk on “Our Fabulous Flowers” – celebrating our wild British plants.

12 August
Summer Garden Social at The Old House, Church Street, by kind permission of Lucy Woolley (6.30pm). Food, wine and soft drinks will be provided. The evening is open to MEMBERS ONLY and limited to 50.

13 September
Club Horticultural Show. 10.30 am – 4.00 pm
The Show Schedule will be available in due course. The show is open to MEMBERS ONLY, but the public are invited to join us from 2 – 4pm to see the exhibits. There will be refreshments and a raffle.

No meeting on 10th September as our Autumn Show is on 13th September

14 October
Members’ forum. Let’s have a fun evening exchanging views on our successes and failures in the garden. Feedback from the Show, plus a demonstration from The Dynamic Duo, Penny and Rose.

11 November
Wud Eye Lye 2 Yew. Three Dorset chaps of a certain age will present to us fourteen weird and wonderful items. We have to decide who is telling the truth!

9 December
Christmas Social. Come and join us for an evening of fun. Mulled Wine and refreshments provided. Christmas raffle. The evening is open to MEMBERS ONLY

2027

13 January
Kate Toller joins us with a talk about Show Gardens. Kate has worked on several notable gardens bringing them back to life. Her talk will reflect on the plants, people, stories and challenges she has come across on her journey.

10 February
Nick Bailey from BBC: Confessions of a TV gardener – entertaining autobiography talk tracing Nick’s gardening life across four continents. Tickets: £10 for members.

10 March
AGM followed by a talk from a Castle Gardens expert. Gardening for Pollinators. The best plants to attract bees and butterflies into your garden as well as information about which garden chemicals it is safe to use without harming our bees.
